actually I would do this for quite a few Maxima functions and also shift around some functions to different packages. E.g. it doesn't make a lot of sense to have function columnvector in package eigen as if only eigenvectors would be column vectors. A rework of naming and packaging would increase the usability of Maxims considerably. This should go together with a compatibility package and way to declare functions as deprecated, so that the user get a warning when using them, stating what the new function is.
