Your results are very positive progress for me and my students.

I've just downloaded the 16.12.2 dmg and run it alongside my existing
Maxima and gnuplot installations  (MacOS 10.11.6)

In a few minutes of testing I find that it solves several especially
inconvenient bugs from the 16.04 dmg at source forge, namely:
     Cell--Evaluate all Cells  now works without crashing wxmaxima
     Maxima--Restart Maxima now works without crashing wxmaxima
     export to html correctly handles duplicate output labels

However, I can confirm that File--New freezes the wxMaxima window,
requiring Force Quit
