Hmm, what is the Ubuntu version and what is the SBCL version? I am
also trying to use SBCL (1.1.14-debian) on Ubuntu (14.04) and I am
running into problems with ASDF, so I haven't even been able to create a
core file.

By the way, I have successfully used Clozure CL for Maxima-Jupyter.
Maybe that would work for you too.
