By Claude:

Multiplying powers of %e whose exponents contain logarithms can leave a nested product that is not recognized as equal to the flat one:

(%i1) %e^(log(x)/2 + y)*%e^(log(x)/2)*x;
(%o1) x*(%e^y*x)
(%i2) is(% = x^2*%e^y);
(%o2) false

%e^(log(x)/2 + y)*%e^(log(x)/2) simplifies to x*%e^y, so the expression is x^2*%e^y, and is should return true. The nested product x*(%e^y*x) is flagged as simplified, so later operations do not repair it.
