(%o1) [x = 1]

But of course x=1 is not even in the domain of this function. Further, if you cancel out the sqrt(x-1) which causes this, then x=1 is no longer a "solution" in any case!

I note that doing a radcan() on the expression first resolves this issue, which makes me wonder if perhaps there is a valid rationale for solve to attempt a radcan first before trying to find the zeroes of the enumerator.
