I commited the "news" and "files" plugin to CVS some weeks ago. I have modified the news plugin based on input from Lukas Theussl. He suggested some nice features. I'm now wondering if we could release the first version of the plugins. I haven't received much feedback except that they both seem valueable in some way. Regarding release I have some questions I hope some of you may help me with: * I guess the two plugins have to be added to the File Release System? Can one of the admins help me with that? * Site for the plugins: Can I just generate site and scp content to the web server or do you have another way of doing this? * How do I add the jars to http://maven-plugins.sourceforge.net/repository/maven-plugins/plugins/ ? * Should they also be added to ibiblio? If so, how? Morten |

I would like to propose a few modifications to the maven-news-plugin that was submitted recently by Morten Kristiansen. These modifications make the plugin more flexible for the user. My motivations for these changes can be seen on this web page (which was already generated by the new version of the plugin): http://www.triumf.ca/people/theussl/JaxoDraw/Web/news-report.html The changes are: * introduced a maven.news.header property (Default="News") that can be overridden by the user (there should be no hard-coded strings in .jsl files). * replaced the "header" and "date" tags by just one "name" tag. This allows the user to choose the format of the headers (I just wanted the date without a text, others might prefer the date before the text, with a different separator, etc). Note also that the xdoc plugin generates id's for each sub/section from its "name" tag, which makes it possible to link to a single news entry from other source documents, see eg the homepage of my web page above. * add the possibility to include (optionally) a section (or whatever) above/below the list of news entries. In my example above, this is a "Current Status" section. * reorganized the structure of the news.xml source document like <news>

... </news> So the source code for my web page above looks like that:

We are currently waiting for feedback ...
...
<news>

We have discovered quite a subtle bug ...

... </news>
A patch for these issues is attached. I think these are rather useful generalizations and I hope these changes will be applied before the plugin gets published. |

Hi all, I have uploaded the 1.0 version of the webtest plugin, but I haven't been able to generate the announcement text.. Not sure why, something dodgy about the project, as I've tried it on two different machines...! Would someone mind taking a look? Once I can get the announcement text to generate, and sigi updates the permissions so I can update the website, then I'll post a more formal notice! The webtest plugin however should be available through Ibiblio any minute now. Eric Pugh |

Sigi, (and anyone else who might be able to help!) The permissions in the htdocs/maven-webtest-plugins are set up so only the owner can write, members of the group can't. Can someone sort this out? I am trying to upload the latest documentation for the soon to be announced 1.0 version of the plugin. Eric |

One thing to keep in mind is that our repo is synced to ibiblio, and only our maven-plugins project jars should go there. These commerical jars.. Are they redistributable? I have now commited the two plugins (files and news) to the CVS repository. Perhaps some of you could have a look at the contents before we go on with releasing the first versions? We have used both these plugins in our project for over 6 months now, so I think they're beyond beta version already. Any hints on how I release the jars and build the sites? Are there any pre-tasks I should do? ERIC: I will zip the projectset plugin for you so you can have look at the code and see if it fits your plans for the Eclipse plugin. Sounds great. Can we possibly hold off on the projectset being added? I think that the functionality of projectset would address some of the outstanding enhancement requrest for maven-eclipse-plugin. If it doesn't look like a good fit, we can of course keep it seperate, but I'd like to see if it fits in eclipse plugin's functionality to keep it one place. Due to Eric's response regarding the possibillity to include the projectset plugin into the Eclipse plugin, we can await that part. The two other plugins (files, news) can be added at any time. They are already updated to be commited directly into the SF CVS repo (inherit correct POM etc). I don't have a CVS user though. If someone would like to add me, kindly use "mortenkr" as username (if possible). maven-files-plugin: I don't have any other arguments than: We have a lot of files commited to CVS for each of our ejb modules. It can be all from classdiagrams to deployment documentation to our production environments etc. We find this plugin very useful because we have a lot of people that have a desire to read a lot of this files/docs (but don't have access to CVS); now they can via the Maven site, together with everything else the Maven site offers. maven-projectset-plugin: For those of you that don't know Eclipse projectset, this is really just a xml file with info about what modules you want to checkout from CVS (including branches etc). In our project, we have 40 ejb modules in CVS and our developers simply imports projectset files to get the full Eclipse workspace setup. The Maven plugin was created to be able to use this projectset file in Maven (we use it from CruiseControl). It should perhaps be merged into the Eclipse Maven plugin. BUT: It's important that the goals does not depend on Eclipse to be installed. We don't want to force that on a build machine. I'm currently also working on a JMeter plugin. It's far from ready yet, but here's a sneak preview: http://www.mortenkristiansen.net/maven-jmeter-plugin/ Thanks, Morten >From: "Eric Pugh" <ep...@up...> >To: "'Jörg Schaible'" ><Joe...@El...>,<mav...@li...> >Subject: RE: [Maven-plugins-developer] New Maven Plugins >Date: Thu, 3 Mar 2005 07:36:31 -0800 > >I'll start looking at these too. I'll start looking at these too. Off the top of my head, while maven-files-plugin seems like a nice plugin, what is the use case for it? Can we add some sort of "marketing" to the main page to tell someone why this plugin is useful? And why it'll make their life better? =20 News is more straightforward, it is similar to the changes.xml based change log. Can you elaborate more on projectset? How are projectset's useful, and why can't we roll that functionality into the eclipse plugin? I am the maintainer of the eclipse plugin, and going to be pushing on it soon, and would like to do a big enhancement instead of the piddly stepping stones we have been doing. Our project has developed some useful Maven plugins and we wish to share them with the open source community. Our goal is to host them at Maven Plugins at SourceForge. Below I have listed some links to the documentation of the plugins. Input from you guys are much appreciated. Hi Siegfried, thanks for applying the patch. Just in wonder: Is there any automatic = notification for patches? I would have applied it too, but I did not = recognize, that a patch was available at all. At least in the archives = of all three lists is nothing to find, so I seem not to have missed it.
