And while we're on the subject of OS X builds, I have a request.

Can you add /usr/local/share/matplotlib to the list of default locations 
search for the data directory?

/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/Current/share/matplotlib 
is not, I think a good place for it.
