The column asignments are tags + open/close status. https://waffle.io/matplotlib/matplotlib/settings/columns _should_ drop you to the webpage that lets you see how they are controlled (you might need to log in to see it). It has been set up for a while now and no one has complained about GH breaking, so I think it is pretty side-effect less.
