What's new in matplotlib 0.73 new contour functionality Filled contours (polygons) with contourf and clabel . See examples/contour_demo.py, examples/contourf_demo.py, examples/contour_image.py and the screenshot at http://matplotlib.sf.net/screenshots.html#pcolor_demo.
