#9 Windows-install FIX
I'm using the German version of Win98SE and also had
trouble with installing octave. The point is, that the
installer uses a batch file (setup.bat), that is
dependend on the OS-language, i.e. on the screen-
output of the "dir"-command, when it trys to determine
the install-dir.
The easiest way to get this fixed is to apply the
following changes to the developer-version of octave
and then install.
At first, check the output of the "dir"-command on
your OS. It should look like this:

Line 3 is important. You have to put the words before
the working directory into SETUP.BAT
Then (I guess depending on the OS) you may need
another workaround:
Put a file named "directory.!" into the lokation
of "setup.bat", containing "call directory.bat "
(including space-character at the end, but WITHOUT
linebreak!), and add 3 more lines to "setup.bat":
copy directory.!+go.bat go.!
del go.bat
ren go.! go.bat
That's it! Just compile the installer and enjoy :)
If you do not want to use the developement version, it
might be possible to fix it the following way:
Run the installer and keep attention on the install-
progress. As soon, as the tarball is completely
installed in the $INSTDIR/src - Directory, copy it to
another folder! Do the same with $INSTDIR/setup.bat
and $INSTDIR/bin/setup.
The point is: When the installer is finished, those
files get deleted.
Ok. Simply put them back where they belong to and
apply the changes to setup.bat (do not forget to
create "directory.!", run setup.bat and enjoy :) (Of
course, you may finally delete them.)
