Also, how do I combine formulas and text to create algebra quizes in MS Word and/or Open Office?

Sorry if I didn't understand your questions correctly.
The help is functional (through F1 key), and it includes a lot of information on MathCast.
To create a quiz or other document, write the entire document in Word (or Open Office), and when you need equations, you can use MathCast to create them. You can copy the equations from MathCast and paste them into Word. Choose the best copy type from the Settings Screen in MathCast.
You can also have short text inside equations by putting it in quotation marks.
