#136 Umlaute not displayed correctly

German Umlaute are not displayed correctly.
Only some garbage characters are shown.
Environment:
- Debian Testing
- Window Manager: XFCE
- locale (LANG etc): de_DE@euro

xterm and rxvt do not show this error.
They display Umlaute correctly.

mrxvt on a different machine with Debian Lenny
and Window Manager Gnome works does not have
this error.

This bug is found in version 0.5.4-1 of the Debian package.
Version 0.5.4-1 has the same bug under Gnome, too.

Version 0.5.3-2 works correctly under Gnome and Xfce.
