Hi Manny and the rest of you on this list, For quite some time I've promised to get around to contributing more to this project, and it hasn't happened. I thought long about why yesterday. Part of it is because I'd like to move my scarce spare time coding efforts from simulations toward some open source tools that are currently being used in existing space agencies, like some of the ESA SoC software projects. There is a path from my geodata tasks at my workplace to space software toolboxes, and I want to pursue this. I have much enjoyed MSP as open source project, but I think it's time for me to hand it over to the growing community. I think it's cool that in the past years the number of users has grown so fast, and the interface has become much more modern and intuitive, and the simulation more engaging. Thank you so much everybody, and may you all live to one day see a Mars settlement happen. Good luck! :-) - Lars |

Hi Lars, Can you post your tool in GH ? It's nice showing how many files on each category. I do notice GH has a color tool built-in (right below the description) to tell the % breakdown of the type of languages used but they are different. 1. Java 79.6% <https://github.com/mars-sim/mars-sim/search?l=java> 2. HTML 10.0% <https://github.com/mars-sim/mars-sim/search?l=html> 3. I also put a bit of info. at http://forum.freegamedev.net/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=7321 Hopefully, it might generate a bit of interest for the project. -- Regards, Shirish Agarwal शिरीष अग्रवाल My quotes in this email licensed under CC 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ http://flossexperiences.wordpress.com EB80 462B 08E1 A0DE A73A 2C2F 9F3D C7A4 E1C4 D2D8 |

Hi shirish, I replied to the placement issue of media files at https://github.com/mars- sim/mars-sim/issues/5 > I have another query. Does anybody know how frequent or infrequent do changes happen to the images/animation files ? The short answer is : whenever the UI is updated It's true that the files inside /funmenu/ can be moved elsewhere to keep things more organized. You may find jpg or png files scattered in different folders. It depends on what they are being used for and where they are needed. When we first adopted a particular UI element, we tended to retain their original folder structure for their media files. Yes, it's a good observation and we surely can reduce or merge some of the folders. Hi all, I find this article an interesting read. http://ashtonkemerling.com/blog/2017/01/26/java-without-if/ There's a lot of error-prone, null-checking statements in mars-sim. May be we can replace some of them with "Optional". Enjoy! Manny |

I work in the bioinformatics industry so no relation to aerospace, for example, but do use Java there. that's very great you're into bioinformatics and know Java. > our facebook page, SF's discussion forum and/or developer's mailing list. Which of these is preferred? Let's take advantage of using facebook discussions on any relevant topics regarding mars-sim for quick turnaround questions/answers. Fhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/125541663548/ When we get into more technical stuff that require laying out a problem with paragraphs of sentences, then we'll fall back to using the forum or email. Btw, we have just barely started defining what the genetic information two bonded couples may pass onto their descendants. I recalled years ago there was a game called Creatures. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatures_(video_game_series) I can think of you enriching mars-sim by contributing codes to building artificial genes (but not limited to this). Feel free to ask whatever questions you have in mind and welcome to mars-sim! Hi Thomas, Can you define "contributions from third parties" ? We don't have anything solid written on paper. But we'd definitely appreciate you interact with us in our facebook page, SF's discussion forum and/or developer's mailing list. Are you interested in becoming a developer ? Do let me know. Hi Manny, I suppose there are six steps: Import entire SVN repo through the importer, so we get the history Move the webpages over to a GH Pages branch (this might change the location of the page) Copy the information over in Wiki Copy open issues and questions over Put up a notice on SF that it's moved Later: close the SF repo Did I forget something? - Lars manny kung skrev den 2017-01-04 18:41: > Hi Lars, > >> projects geodata onto maps > > Yes, do by all means, incorporate what you know in mars-sim. > > The old traditional OOP paradigm (that we've currently been using) tends to scatter geographic data all over the places. Hi Lars, > projects geodata onto maps Yes, do by all means, incorporate what you know in mars-sim. The old traditional OOP paradigm (that we've currently been using) tends to scatter geographic data all over the places. I wonder what it would look like if we create a geo tagging structure to organize/store metadata such as the temperature, pressure, solar irradiance, etc., by each lattitude/longitude pair. Hi everybody Just letting you know I'm still here, and reading but not contributing much. Ironically, these days I do work with Java development (a switchboard solution) in an agency that projects geodata onto maps. But it takes so much of my time and so I only check out MSP once every other week. I have no doubt I will return to working on it this year. I still wish we could move our stuff to GitHub where I spend all of my other development efforts. We even have a repo ready for it already :-) Cheers, - Lars |

Hi Scott/Lars, I'm adding izpack-maven-plugin to mars-sim-ui's pom.xml and starting to play with it. The combined total of its files is only 2.3MB (uncompressed) Hopefully, this installer will take away the anxiety of users who are unfamiliar with java and what jar is. Hi Scott/Lars, I'm planning to add the concept of safety training and emergency drill as either a Mission or just a Task. This probably necessitates a new super class responsible for getting a group of settlers to meet together. Do let me know any ideas you have in mind. Manny |

Hi Scott/Lars, It turns out the JTextField issue is NOT ModalInternalFrame-related since the address url JTextField in BrowserJFX doesn't work as well. Hi Scott, I've mentioned the JTextfield issue in linux lately. It seems ModalInternalFrame can't "focus" any JTextfield properly. It only happens in linux. As a result, I'm not able to change any numbers in the text field in ubuntu. Again the problem doesn't exist for mac or windows os. An example is when using Resupply Tool to edit the sol or the number of population in ModifyTransportItemDialog. In 3.07, we don't have this problem at all in any os because we use JDialog. It could be a simple hack in ModalInternalFrame to fix this or we need to break down this issue to see if it has to do with using JavaFX swing node to house.ModalInternalFrame. Can you take a look at it ? Thanks, Manny On Wed, Jul 1, 2015 at 5:40 PM, Scott Davis <mar...@gm...> wrote: > I created a ModalInternalFrame class that appears to work now. Yes I'm very excited about getting mars-sim a face-lift! Hard to get it right though. There is a lot of detail gone hidden under the hood currently in mars-sim. They are not exposed or inaccessible to users. I'm hoping to build some widget/ inspection windows for users to interact with the settlers more and also allow more tweaking of the default config. e.g. Why does a person choose to pick up a particular task? Unless we can find something out there plug-and-play, we'll need to develop our own widget in-house. On Oct 27, 2016 5:52 AM, <la...@na...> wrote: That sounds amazing. Hi Scott, Thanks for refactoring this. Do you think you have time to look into how a bed is assigned ? There are so many cases that I have to consider in Sleep and SleepMeta. too many method calls to keep track. I believe I commented out travellers trying to find an assigned bed to sleep on. Somehow, folks already having assigned beds are still not getting his/her bed when there are no travelers from another settlement. Hi Scott, I'm revisiting an old issue regarding someone who get stuck in an airlock of an observatory. The sim did not crash but my stack trace is flooded with repeated logging statement and a stackoverflow. Looking at the schedule tasks from a few sols ago, Ms Backman was first requesting medical assistance on Sol 10 and being treated for a panic attack and is recovering. Since then she's been requesting medical help numerous time, up to today the Sol 16. Sol 14 and Sol 15 tasks are missing and does not show up on the Schedule Tab in Personal Window. Probably due to stackoverflow. As an astronomer, her visit to do EVA is frequent an has to leave the lander hab to get to the observatory daily. Then a major fire occurs in the observatory in sol 12 and her fatigue is at Bedbound level at 1540. Her performance is crippling (at zero). But she's totally relaxed (stress is at 0). This creates excessive logging about getting out of the airlock and possibly because of that, it creates StackOverflowError in eclipse from repetitive log statement So, I'll going to: a. Change from walkToBed(accommodations, person, false) to walkToBed(accommodations, person, true) in Sleep. This allows walkToBed() to fail. b. Annotate that calling getNewAction() enclosed inside a try-catch is still considered "experimental" in canExitAirlock() in ExistAirlock. c. Add setPerformanceFactor() in within the try-catch phrase in part b above to "boost" a person's moral back to a sufficient level of confidence. Note that I'm liberally assuming that in real life, a person would call intercomm to request help from someone in imminent danger/trouble, In this trivial case of getting stuck in an airlock of an observatory, after speaking to someone, he may receive some morale support and his performance level should GO BACK UP sufficiently to get himself out of trouble :) In future, I suggest we create a brand new "Desire" class (similar in scope to Preference class) for modifying which near term Task(s) will have an added bonus of probability to be chosen to performance. May be we should also tune up the relationship between fatigue, stress and performance. The 3 are interrelated. I actually made a note inside canExitAirlock() in ExistAirlock.back in Feb this year that I added getNewAction() inside a try-catch. For a while, it seems to resolve one of those "walking bugs" that we encounter. What else should we pay attention to and what other intervention should we take ? Regards, Manny |
