To clarify: Myth uses a 3D terrain engine, with 99% of objects being sprites (units, trees, rocks, thrown shields, gibs) and true-3D models that interact with the terrain. These are actual polygon models, and make up things like steep walls, most bridges, tall columns, large statues, etc. In Myth:TFL (the first one), the bridge on the first level, Crow's Bridge, was created by raising the terrain in that area at a steep angle, and then using shadows and texture to hide the fact that it was "fake". The railings on the bridge were models. In Five Champions, the bridge was a model. In Myth II, the bridges were mostly real models, such as that on Gonen's Bridge. These models did have some limitations, but were essentially true 3D (you could walk under them, etc.) The point is that the use of 3D models in Marathon could be used to the same effect, provided that the ability to walk on/through models was provided.
