When I bring up the auto-map with the tab key, the game instantly crashes to the desktop.

I'm using the Windows version of Aleph One, dated 26th Dec 2008.

stderr.txt says:

vhalt render.cpp:586: Assertion failed: false

Are you using OpenGL or software rendering? Vista or XP?

I'm using OpenGL on XP 32 bit SP3.

    I have a GTX260+ with Forceware 181.22.

I have not experienced this problem with previous versions of Aleph One.

I don't see how this failure is possible.

Does it happen in software mode?

Yes, it happens under software mode, with exactly the same assertion failure:

    vhalt render.cpp:586: Assertion failed: false

I can confirm it’s software rendering from the noticeable loss of image quality.

As soon as I touch the tab key (auto map), the game instantly crashes.

Is this M1A1? Do you have any extra MML installed?

Sorry, what is M1A1? I can confirm it happens with the 1, 2 and Infinity scenarios loaded.

I have the stock MML files along with the ones required for high res landscapes, high res textures, and also the high res weapons.

As a test, I removed *ALL* of my MML files, but the problem persisted.

This is still happening in the latest September release, but it stops if I use the new HUD option to pick the largest HUD size. Any other HUD size still crashes.

The error is the same too:

    vhalt ../../../svn/Source_Files/RenderMain/render.cpp:586: Assertion failed: false
