The Mapbuilder community are delighted to announce the first maintenance release of Community Mapbuilder 1.5.1: http://docs.codehaus.org/display/MAP/Downloads This is a minor release for maintenance, addressing some bug fixes with recent browsers (Firefox 3.6 and 4+, Internet Explorer 9 to 11, Opera and WebKit-Browsers like Google Chrome), and updating OpenLayers to the 2.13 release. For Details: Read the News http://docs.codehaus.org/display/MAP/mapbuilder-lib-1.5.1-release or see the Release Notes linked there! Thanks to Cameron Shorter and Steven Ottens for their help! Best regards, Bernhard Kiselka |

Hi Just! I know that Mapbuilder is old, but it is still working. With some tweaks also in modern browsers. So don't have to throw away all my old stuff. You are right: new applications should be started with a new technology. To name a few: OpenLayers 3 - http://ol3js.org/ GeoExt2 - http://geoext.github.io/geoext2/ Kind regards, Bernhard -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: Just van den Broecke [mailto:ju...@ju...] Gesendet: Mittwoch, 26. Hello Carlos! The site http://communitymapbuilder.org/ seems to be down. The trunk mapbuilder build from trunk works fine with firefox 10.0.1 – at least the examples. Here is the guide how to access the SVN repository: http://docs.codehaus.org/display/MAP/SVN+Repository Check it out, make sure you have eclipse or ant and run the dist-tomcat target of the build.xml. The mapbuilder avaialbe at sourceforge is old (1.0 rc1) and does not support HTML5: http://mapbuilder.sourceforge.net/mapbuilder/ But Starting with rev. 4067 (2001-07-04) mapbuilder supports HTML5 browsers, this version is on http://dev.prisma-solutions.at/mapbuilder/examples/simple/index.html Does this simple example work for you? Hi Steven, webkit browsers (new Safari, Google Chrome, ...) are still not supported. There are problems with the XSLT engine (Javeline) mapbuilder uses in those browsers. Maybe it's just enough to omit those libraries. I did some research on new versions for those: The code of http://www.ajax.org (license: LGPL) source\core\parsers\xpath.js source\core\markup\xslt\xslt.js looks very similar to javeline_xpath.js javeline_xslt.js respectively. According to Andreas Hocevar webkit browsers also have problem loading scripts dynamically. But he did not succeed in running mapbuilder with just one big file on webkit browsers either. Thanks for your offer to help. Let's see if a release is needed. Best regards, Bernhard Am 22.10.2010 19:42 schrieb Steven M. See http://dev.abiss.gr/sarissa/howtos.html#javeline. Browse the dev list archive to find more information on these efforts. Jean-Sebastien has left Geomatys soon after he was able to make some of the Mapbuilder examples work in a now outdated version of Safari. Current versions of Safari and Chrome should have client-side XSL support, but that seems incompatible with the Sarissa version used in Mapbuilder 1.5. > If MapBuilder works thanks to "webkit", how can I use this library ? > WebKit is the rendering engine that browsers like Safari and Chrome use. Sarissa is the library that Mapbuilder uses for abstraction of client-side XSLT. Nobody has investigated why Mapbuilder does not work with recent WebKit browsers. Maybe there is a simple fix, maybe it is just not worth the effort. The development team of Mapbuilder has retired and moved to other solutions for web-based GIS solutions. But if someone wants to continue work on Mapbuilder and has a patch to prove their skills (making it work in WebKit would definitely be a proof), the Project Steering Committee will be happy to give them trunk access and the ability to create new releases. And what about "webkit" on Safari with Geomatys' work ? If MapBuilder works thanks to "webkit", how can I use this library ? Best regards. I suspect Chrome, like Safari does not support XSLT (from a JS Processor) so none of the style sheet transformations that Map Builder relies on will work (for layer list, etc.). The underlying logic built into OpenLayers will work on every browser I have tried though: http://www.openlayers.org. The Mapbuilder community is proud to announce the release of Mapbuilder 1.5, the last official stable release provided by the current development team. See [1] for more information. The new release is available for download at [2]. Mapbuilder 1.5 is based on OpenLayers 2.8 and was tested on Internet Explorer (versions 6, 7 and 8) and Mozilla Firefox (versions 2.x and 3.x). This ensures that users can keep using Mapbuilder for some time, and extend their applications with the rich feature set of OpenLayers 2.8 Since the last stable release 1.0.1, there have been significant changes and improvements, most of them related to switching from Mapbuilder's own rendering to OpenLayers. See [3] for the full change log. If you are upgrading applications from 1.5-alpha1 or earlier, see [4] for a list of required configuration changes. Regards, Andreas Hocevar. Yes, I know it. I like Mapbuilder because we can config to change component in program. I don't know if GeoExt have this feature, and Ext is not free, so can't use it. That won't happen unfortunately, because the client-side XSLT transformation stuff cannot be ported to Chrome. There were efforts to make Sarissa work with Webkit some time ago, but it has been dropped due to lack of maintenance. If you are looking for something that works in all major browsers, you may want to check out GeoExt (http://geoext.org/).
