Hi, I’m John, a regular visitor to your site and I’m writing to ask if there was a chance to write some content for your site for *free*. I'd love to contribute a guest post or something similar. Ahoj Ducu! Ah yes the license thingie.. I remember now.. Maybe worth checking with JDK people directly if they mind having it part of such a bundle? (I don't know if that is feasible). Great to hear that you are still on anyway.. keep us posted! :) Best hugs, Gwen PS: yesterday I wanted to check mak API docs within BEST bundle, could you checkf it is actually included? Hey, I was thinking of this also some time ago when i did the installer for BEST but there are some problems with licenses. JDK as far as i read and understood it's license it is free distributable but then again i have never seen it embedded with any other software package or linux distribution.... (and i do think those guys have a better understanding of the license than me :D ). But on the other hand it is possible to have a registry check for the jdk version if jdk was installed using the windows installer, and only if it has the proper version to allow makumba to be installed.... but i never tryed this, still it can't be that hard :D Today it's my last workday in Siemens (finaly) but exams are coming. After they are all done i think i can have a look and see what i can do to avoid all the license issues. Hugs, Ducu. Hi there! I'm still amazed every time I run it by the easiness of the installation of the BEST-specific makumba developper bundle. In a couple of clicks it installs everything needed from tomcat and makumba to the DB engine. Really smooth, that was really a nice work Ducu (when virus-free at least ;)). I have a feeling that providing such a running application 2 clicks away would simpler do wonders when it comes to spreading makumba. Otherwise you need to master all the subtleties of JDBC or find your way in the jungle or at least the information about the recommended ant version. What is your feeling? Ducu do you think it would be doable to make a similar win-package, but this time without any BEST related items (putting just a couple of tables like general.Person and general.Country or the like with a couple of dummy entries in each, and a couple of JSPs/BL files). Such a bundle would be also much lighter than the BEST one thanks to that. Maybe even CVS is not needed either in this context. Ducu, if we go for it, just tell me if I can be of any help. Or maybe you could give instructions to someone else if there are people interested to take over this Hugs, Gwen |

hi all, see the emails below. Some LBGs have been using content management systems (CMS) before but now there seems to be some energy to work together in sharing ideas, problems, solutions and even working on modules together. this seems to be a great opportunity for some LBGs trying Makumba and working on modules together. Of course this would need to helpdesk support from some Makumbians... but it's an opportunity that either we take it or probably forget about it. Ducu and Mile, weren't you working in some ideas for local instalation, local LBGs?... Adler ---------- Forwarded message ---------- As you might know, recently a new mailing list for local webmasters has been created. hello - the example fails to illustrate embedded mak:lists which i think are the most powerful feature of makumba - does anybody have the UML diagrams that Bart and Johannes made for the meeting in Stockholm? we should put them somewhere on the website - http://www.makumba.org/hacking/index.html links to bugzilla are broken probably due to the new bugzilla - http://www.makumba.org/hacking/eclipse-howto.html see below an updated how-to (adds e.g. antlr-eclipse) cristi ------- ssh cvs.sf.net type your username and password, you will be logged out. then you can checkout makumba from eclipse (after you installed antlr-eclipse!) using File/Import/Checkout Project from CVS repository location :extssh:joa...@cv...:/cvsroot/makumba checkout module makumba then - use Run/Run.../JUnit/test-mdd, that will test the MDD parser - configure a database "makumba" in your mysql (the usual user root, no password), and run JUnit/test-dbtable . That will test the DB functionality which we are just replacing with Hibernate - use Run/Run.../Java Application/tomcat-mak. before pressing Run, click Arguments, Variables, Edit Variables, double-click catalina_home and use Browse to point it to a download (not necessarily install!) of tomcat 5.5. Click OK, OK, and Cancel (! otherwise you will paste $catalina_home and you don't want that), then Run tomcat - once tomcat is started, use Run/Run.../Junit/test-formatters. that will test the mak:value and mak:input functionality. we should write more such tests, or improve the existing ones. - you can stop tomcat after the formatter tests are done. |

hi Anida I think sending an email to itc@ (who are aware of the problem anyway) will not achieve much. I think the way to start a group that takes care of makumba promotion outside BEST and community builing is to make working groups in international BEST meetings, like workshops, PM, GA, etc. i think that's the way to start any taskforce in BEST. people get involved, understand the challenge and they become active. this is more like a PR/promotion task then a technical one. present it to people as such. make sure people see the challenge in it For organizing a working group, you need: 1) to convince Rudi that this is important and then he will convince the board to allocate a working group 2) to prepare the working group topic with the currently interested people (you, Adler, Aurora, etc) 3) to make sure that one of the interested people (preferably the one who worked most in the preparation) attends the meeting and chairs the working group. 4) ask people who are active in the working group whether they want to join the makumba-comm-build mailing list 4) if needed, set up a followup working group in another BEST meeting 5) but most importantly make sure that the makumba-comm-build mailing list is active and people are involved, so works goes on between meetings cristi Anida Omerbegovic wrote: > Hi guys! > > I hope you all are enjoying a sunny and warm summer! > > Regarding Adler's suggestion, I was wondering if there is any volunteer > to prepare a 'www.makumba.org/community-building' page. > > Also, are there any other suggestions/comments? Good morning! okie dokie...then we MIGHT send to Karamba but only when Mak Community webpage is finished. Thank you Gwen and Adler for your opinions. It certainly helps me. I hope we will have a volunteer soon for putting up the page soon. (I think in Makumba Kongress we suggested Aurora to do that...of course to decide first what to put there. However, Adler had some suggestions in previous mails. Please Aurora let me know if you are still available for that.) Aside from all this above, I wish a happy _belated_ birthday to Cristi! Building a community of "Makumbians" is not an IT work although it's related with IT. Things like: promotion & PR, thinking in ways to promote makumba and work on that (e.g., newsletters in Blogs, newsgroups, sourceforge,...), makumba community web page... might be motivating for other ppl to build their extra-school "career" as IT ppl do in ITC ;-) (1*) just some thoughts. so maybe only ITC and Karamba (K!) suits the purpose. I agree that anyone interested in IT (coding or just interested) are covered by these lists. perhaps we could work on the Mak Community webpage before contacting K! ppl. greets adler after a nice running in the forest :) 1* - I guess the one that make the Makumba logo from mT (?) feel quite happy for making something that most BESTies already see and other outside BEST ;-) but maybe it was a IT guy :-D that's one thing I don't remember... :D ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Discover Easy Linux Migration Strategies from IBM. I agree that anyone interested in IT (coding or just interested) are covered by these lists. perhaps we could work on the Mak Community webpage before contacting K! ppl= . greets adler after a nice running in the forest :) 1* - I guess the one that make the Makumba logo from mT (?) feel quite happy for making something that most BESTies already see and other outside BEST ;-) but maybe it was a IT guy :-D that's one thing I don't remember... :D |

Nice nice Adler and Anida to see things getting organized on that side. About the lists to send your letter to: [Anida] > I was also wondering to send the same letter to lbgs@.... Since not only = ITC but everyone can be part of makumba community. ITC is definitly more than fine to sent your letter to, but lbgs@ I would say certainly NOT. If BEST people are interested enough by makumba they probably ended up already on ITC/D. If you really want to broaden the audience then maybe karamba@ but I personally see it already far too disconnected from its purpose (to gather input/feed back on BEST IT systems from a user perspective, not at all on the technologies behind). On lbgs@ I believe 99% of the people will consider it unsollicited information and wonder what it has to there. You might want to check with the secretary how she feels about it. 2 cents.
