Try it with ACPI just to humor me. Your saying "everything works fine except when I do this..." And I'm saying that means that everything does _not_ work fine. Other people using ThinkPads aren't having your problems and maybe it's because they're using ACPI for IRQ routing? Besides, with ACPI you'll get better battery life. It won't hurt to try, right?
