I solved this problem using a trick as follows: What I need is monitor mode. I first create a sta mode, then without destroying it, I create a monitor mode. After that, I destroy both of them and then create a monitor mode again. Now the monitor mode works and doesn't freezes the machine. I am not sure the why this happens. After performing this, another minor bug pointed out in ticket 2042 happens. I solved it using the method described in the ticket. Hope this help others who want to play with madwifi using AR5008 chipset.
