hi chaps, Thanks to gimli's work i've been happily booting into linux for a few days now - great! Getting it running on an external hard disk isn't quite a userland experience yet though - i tried it through the ubuntu install cd (Alessio Caiazza's idea)and it complains about incompatibility between its modules and gimli's kernel, and then dumps out on trying to set the clock. Trying to copy gimli's livecd over to my HD didn't work either (it dies while booting) and although pivot_root should work but i get a "device in use' error. Obviously beyond a mere user like me... Anyhow: I actually have another question - has anyone got vmware running? It needs the kernel headers files (/usr/src/linux) so as to be able to compile a kernel module, but i can't get the ubuntu ones to work (different version from gimli's kernel). Any ideas where i might get the 2.6.16-rc5 kernel headers so i can get vmware to work? I'd like to avoid compiling my own kernel actually because - well - frankly, i'm a script kiddie... all the best, barry |
