If you go to "system preferences" and look at the bottom of the window, you will see the "growl" icon. Click on it and choose "applications". Put a check mark to the right of MacBiff. Maybe this will solve your problem.

I have heard that Growl doesn't seem to work with MacBiff anymore. So consider this a known bug. The last MacBiff release was in January of 2005, and I believe the Growl folks have changed slightly how applications are supposed to register with Growl. This is probably the cause of the issue.
I would be happy to accept a patch that gets growl working again.
I apologize for the broken feature. If I ever get around to getting a new Mac, perhaps I'll start development on MacBiff again and fix this.

I was able to re-enable Growl simply by building it against the latest version of the Growl framework. It's possible that others were having issues because Growl is disabled by default in the code - you need to define USE_GROWL in order for it to work.
I've also updated MacBiff to work on Snow Leopard. A Universal Binary and updated source code are available at bitbucket:
I forgot to add an update sooner, but just in case anyone stumbles across this, my changes have been merged into the official Sourceforge project. The latest version of MacBiff has functional Growl support.

It doesn't work for me…
I have the latest versions of MacBiff and Growl.

What is your system configuration (OS version, hardware)? If you could open up the Console application, then look for MacBiff or Growl error messages when MacBiff detects a new message, that would be very helpful in tracking this down. (Let me know if you need more details.)
Unfortunately, I'll be away until next weekend (and without my Mac), so I won't be able to research this more deeply until then.

Geforce 6200
Mac OS X v10.5.8
Nothing related to MacBiff or Growl shows up in the Console when a new message is detected.

Heya,
So I've got growl 0.7.6 and the checkbox to enable growl support is greyed out.
Any thoughts on what needs to be done to support that?
tia,

I can provide patches if you'd like to merge them into the official repo. Just let me know.

Sorry for the delay on this fix, but I've just released an update that should resolve the issue for good. Please let me know how it goes.

By the way, if Growl still doesn't work, try un-registering MacBiff from Growl and then restarting MacBiff:
…in System Preferences > Growl > Applications, select "MacBiff" from the list and click "Remove"
