[Lxr-general] genxref error message

I'm trying to use lxr-0.9.2/genxref with the following command line:

# ./genxref --url=http://www.ointment.org/lxr

The output is:

DBI->connect(dbname=lxr) failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server
through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) at lib/LXR/Index/Mysql.pm

Can't open connection to database

My questions are:

1) Is my '--url' parameter screwy?
2) Why is Mysql.pm trying to connect to /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock, when
my socket is /var/tmp/mysql.sock?
