Change is good but changing everything isn't always great. Same is true for aging computers and their operating systems. Support is sometimes lost too quickly with a 6 month core release cycle. Graphics & Audio cards and chipsets get dropped along with other miscellaneous functions with programs or drivers that just go missing. We all like having updated software we certainly don't like down time or loss of features and capabilities.

I believe most aging hardware just needs the right system on it, and lets face it, it helps keep a couple bucks in your pocket if you can squeeze a few more years out of your current system; without sacrificing, performance, capability, usability and of course aesthetics.

User Reviews

  • I am a LXLE user since many years, and still use it after it obviously is discontinued (website gone) in 2025. Upgrades based on Ubuntu still work, but I am no wizard to know how long I could use LXLE. Up to now no problems. My 12-13 year old PC and laptop run simply superb with LXLE, you can customize it after your wishes (looking for light on CPU programs, of course^^). Couldn't be better. I always refused to buy laptops with in-built batteries, and thanks to LXLE I can use my old HP with a new battery every 3-4 years. What is there more to ask? This was a 1 person project, so you couldn't ask for a lot of support, but for this the Linux and Ubuntu etc community is very strong, and you would always find an answer. This was such a well thought of distro, everything you would need is already in it. My favourite ever Linux distro up to now, I just hope such light weight distros will not just fade away in our time of "buy buy and buy anew". Maybe someone will take this up and release it again - it would certainly make my day :).
  • Great distro. I use my machines with it and it does make a difference in speed. I also use it in a lot of VMs which helps me use my hardware more efficiently. Please donate to the project and spread the word.
  • I used Xubuntu and Lubuntu on a lightweight 64-bit computer. These became unstable when I pushed them. I put 64-bit LXLE on my computer, and it didn't skip a beat. I could push it as hard as I liked. LXLE is worth its weight in gold, simply because I can depend on it no matter what I do. One caution: by accident I deleted the start menu. It didn't ask me, 'Are you sure?'
  • I'm always trying different distros with a triple boot system. Window 10 / Mint Mate (main distro) / trial distro. So I fairly good at choosing the something else when installing. This distro did not add Mint Mate to grub when it finished installing. Also when doing an update the uCareSystem Core froze on me. I didn't know any still installed SeaMonkey. I like SeaMonkey it takes me back to the days of old but I was surprised to see it. So because there seems to be some issues I'm only giving this 3 stars. It does seem light, it does run well but I don't like when a distro doesn't do grub correctly and I don't like a system freeze.
