I do want to be clear, I don't think this is a bad idea. I just want us to be careful about adding dozens of things without due consideration. While I have your attention, any command line option needs to be documented in the man page, not just in the usage printout. Maybe only the graybeards among us know this. Your patch didn't take care of that part. For example, the initial dimensions should most likely be configurable from the GUI and the preferences file, rather than only from the command line via --geometry.
