Hi list, I'm wondering if it's the right time to break backward compatibility with gtk+ 2.6. It's almost four years since the release of gtk+ 2.6. Lately there are some exciting new features in glib and gtk+. Since it's already installed on most distros, there is no reason not to use it unless there are some target platforms requiring gtk+ 2.6. I'm not sure about the condition of some embedded systems. However, since all modern distros upgraded gtk+/glib, and most newer programs requires them, the benefit gotten from the backward compatibility is minimized. Besides, using the latest gtk+/glib can greatly simplify many things, and make the development much faster. This is still a proposal. So, opinions are needed. |
