On the new Ubuntu 8.04, the GL-based window manager compiz is enabled by default. I keep it on since it enables all sorts handy zooming and desktop-switching hotkeys, but it has the unfortunate side-effect of making ogre windows transparent. Text areas seem to render correctly, but images and any UI widgets (i.e. the blue things), get blended with whatever is behind the ogre window. The effect should be observable by just launching (helptool) in the new Ubuntu. I'll send a screenshot to Yann.
