Standalone fat clients are your only option if that is your > requirement. <sigh> This dump is for all the kind and well intentioned answers that basically say "idiot - keep out" and my words that are exact <smile> I use ltsp clients as fast food order takers. If the server dies then the shop owner does not want to say 'sorry no burgers today' instead every order taker can run the app in stand alone mode. If any order taker fails then THAT till is closed, but all the others work. I've done this with ltsp for many years, it works beautifully. So the order taker runs ltsp to the server, if the server fails it runs a local version of the order taker until the server recovers, it then runs in ltsp mode, and locally consolodates the data base. If the server is dead then orders are taken, but there is no feedback to the kitchen screens, till screens etc In this whole picture my hardware runs ltsp, but wont run from hard disk. I wanted to pxe boot and run from the local hard disk (which is Compact Flash) and was looking for inspiration. Thanks to all, and I hope that the full and messy explanation helped and entertained, if it was too OT sorry to all. James |
