We are fast approaching the release of LTSP-4.1 final. (Can you say
Wednesday, Aug 4th)
In preparation for that, we've been squashing lots of little bugs, and
cleaning things up quite a bit. We've still got a bit to do, but things
are really looking good.
Here's a quick list of the changes since the last update:
o fixed path bug in telnet_loop script
o getltscfg, added ability to specify 'NONE' for a paramter.
This will allow you to set things in the [default] section, and
then turn off certain things in the specify [wsXXX] section of
lts.conf.
o Added the cx5530 sound driver to the kernel modules package. This is
needed for the Jammin-125
o Fixed the geode X driver that is needed for the Jammin-125.
o Added the aumix package for the sound system.
o Modifications to the startx screen screen script to all multiple
instances. (Simultaneous sessions)
o Updated rdesktop package from 1.2 to 1.3.1, and fixed the rdesktop
screen script to allow more than one instance on a terminal.
Also added the ability to pass parameters to rdesktop by specifying
them on the SCREEN_XX line. For example:
SCREEN_01 = -u jam 192.168.0.10
That example will have rdesktop launch, and connect to a windows
server at 192.168.0.10 with the user name of 'jam'. Any options
supported by rdesktop can be specified there. Note that the '-f'
option, to cause rdesktop to run in full-screen mode is always
implied, so you don't need to specify that.
o Additions to the vidlist and audiolist files for auto-detection
of video and sound hardware.
o Added package counter to ltspadmin, so that you can see it is doing
something when grabbing the package headers.
Still to do:
o Cleanup of the documentation
o server-side sound package, to make setup easier. Sound is
working very well, we just need to package it.
o server-side localdev package, to make local devs easier to
set up.
o Add more pci id values to vidlist, audiolist and niclist, to better
detect more hardware.
o Many other little things that will crop up before next wednesday.
If you are already running ltsp-4.1 Beta 1, updating is really easy.
1) Download the latest ltsp-utils package and install it.
You can get them from http://www.ltsp.org/ltsp-4.1.html
2) run 'ltspadmin' and choose 'Install/Update LTSP Packages'.
If you aren't running the beta, then just follow the same above steps.
Thanks to everybody who has helped test the current beta. We've
received excellent bug reports and packages, and as a result, LTSP-4.1
is going to be the best yet.
