Interesting... I didn't realize LTSP had that sort of functionality. Anyway, another way of doing this sort of thing, that may be effective a higher percentage of the time, and is also likely more secure, is to add my "fallback-reboot" program to your LTSP client-side setup: http://dcs.nac.uci.edu/~strombrg/fallback-reboot/ It includes a C-R authentication system to deter: 1) replay attacks 2) MITM attacks 3) IP spoofing ...and also attempts to gain reliability by avoiding: 1) fork()ing 2) exec*()ing 3) making use of any filesystems, local or remote 4) making use of the virtual memory system Only thing is, since LTSP tends to use NFS for the root filesystem, when fallback-reboot reads its key out of the root filesystem, that would be sniffable. IMO, LTSP really needs SSHFS (via Fuse?) support for the root filesystem.
