I'm seeing many Altix 3000 sales to "big lab" customers, the most recent being a 256 cpu machine (1.5Ghz Itanium 2, 6MB cache) to be installed in the CCS at ORNL. The machine has 2TB of RAM, and a theoretical peak speed of 1.5 Teraflops: http://www.supercomputingonline.com/article.php?sid=3880&mode=thread&order=0 &thold=0 NWO will be ordering a 416 cpu Altix with 832GB: http://www.supercomputingonline.com/article.php?sid=3878 I've just downloaded and have begun reading about the APIs that need to be used by the application developer to access memory across nodes (XPMEM, XPNET) on the Altix system. I have a few questions: Are these APIs published under GPL? Are (will) these APIs (be) incorporated in the standard kernel? Or is Global Shared Memory something SGI is keeping to itself? Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on this awesome (IMHO) system. Stan Hoeppner TheHardwareFreak st...@ha... |
