Profile comparison tool

It'd be quite useful to have a profile comparison tool that gave the user some indication of the gamuts of two profiles side-by-side. Integrating this into the profile checker might be one approach (via a "compare to" pulldown that lists sRGB etc and draws their gamut in a different colour on the diagram).
Currently it's not too easy to get an idea of how your display device compares to particular generic or other device-specific profiles.

I to would like to do something about this at least in the long run. The current profile checker tool does not support this functionality and even though there have been some enhancements done to the profile checker it will need some major work to get it to do this. For me at least this is fairly far down on my priority list so it will likely be a long time before it gets looked at.
iccexamin has been maturing and getting better. It now has much more functionality than the LProf profile checker including the ability to compare two profiles gamuts and the ability to do a 3D gamut display (you need ArgyllCMS installed to do this). It might actually be a better approach to consider integrating it into LProf as a replacement for the exiting profile checker. I have talked to the author of iccexamin about the possibility of doing this and I believe that he is in the process of slowly decoupling the underlaying application logic from the UI and at some point it might actually become fairly simple to do this integration.
In the mean time I would recommend using iccexamin as a standalone tool. In the past I have found this to be a little difficult to build as it has some odd requirements. But more recent versions have not been too difficult to build and install.
