Well this prompted me to run it on my debian box (the debian lpd I'm using is pretty bad). These could be generic problems, but I don't have much time to look into them (I need to fix my printer so it actually works first :). I've checked a fix in on the 2.0 branch that is needed to run under 2.4.x. Doing apt-get install task-gnulpr destroyed /etc/printcap (so much for making a backup ... Ack). Also when printtool makes /var/spool/lpd/lp0 the filter symlink is pointing to the wrong place "/usr/libexec" instead of "/usr/lib/printfilters". Also when I try a test page from printtool it looks in... . (from after being chdir'd to my user ${HOME}). /bin /usr/bin /sbin /usr/sbin ...but it's only in /usr/lib/printfilters. After that it trys to print and I get this... /usr/sbin/ps-to-printer.fpi: /grab-ppd.awk: No such file or directory ? Device hpdj: This instance of hpdj has been compiled without choosing a default printer model. You must therefore explicitly select a model by means of the 'Model' option. Consult the manual page gs-hpdj(1) for permissible values. Unexpected interpreter error -15.
