Hi Guys. I setup LogicMail for the first time a few days ago. Right of the bat LM said it failed to connect at the end of the wizard and I ended up with a red x on the IMAP folder. After much thought, I realized I had the beta installed so I returned to the ota site and installed stable. That fixed things -so I thought. That same day I skipped through many wifi networks sending/receiving mail...It was, in one word, awesome. Later that day I got home and I was right back where I started with a red x on my root IMAP folder. So in order, I rebooted the phone, deleted my account / rebooted / recreated my account, deleted my account / reinstalled LM / rebooted the phone / recreated my account...Still the red x persisted. I know my Gmail settings well -I'm on Google Apps w/my domain. Everytime I got the red x I tested connectivity by successfully bringing up more than one web page. I also did the "clear cache" button a few times and that didn't help either. I don't have a data plan and likely never will. Any suggestions? BB OS 6.0.0.526 LogicMail 2.2.0.78 IMAP w/Google Apps (with us...@my...) -- Thanks, Phil |

When apps don't work, I know there's a natural tendency to "uninstall, reinstall, reboot, do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around", and it may even work with some complex apps full of system hooks, but it's really just a waste of time when it comes to simple network connectivity issues. (or even most LogicMail problems, many of which are simple network connectivity issues) Also, "the web browser works" is rarely a valid test. So many firewalls may let web traffic through while blocking other things. Also, the web browser is likely to have its own special bag of tricks for getting data, many of which may not be usable by apps like LogicMail. So here's what I would do: 1) Make sure your phone has WiFi connectivity, and that you're not blocking outgoing connections to e-mail server ports 2) On the LogicMail configuration screen, scroll down to the Networking section, and change the connection method from "Auto" to "WiFi only". (you can also do the equivalent of #2 from the setup wizard, and can also change it per-account in the advanced settings of each account) P.S. Of course if it works everywhere except your home, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if its a simple firewall configuration problem at your home router. -Derek On 06/02/2012 10:22 AM, Philippe LeCavalier wrote: > Hi Guys. > > I setup LogicMail for the first time a few days ago. Hi, Is it possible to pre-download some part of the email so that it can be read quickly? Thanks |

Thanks for the suggestions but this really has nothing to do with the network I'm connected to. I know that for certain because i)All the networks I'm referring to were built by me from the ground up and ii)LM worked on all of the networks at one point but not anymore. In fact, I've since returned to the same ones and it still doesn't work. Thought... I came across a post at one point(can't find it at the moment) that suggested I add either blackberry.net or internet.com to my APN settings. The original setting was blank. The same post suggested that if LM didn't work after entering the either APN settings to call your provider and ask them what the "Access Point Name" is for your phone...Is this setting even relevant? If you're using WiFi, and insist that you don't have a data plan, then the APN setting is kinda irrelevant. The first thing I'd do, is use the BlackBerry event logger to see what's actually happening when LogicMail tries to connect to your mail server. You get to the event logger by pressing "Alt-lglg" (hold down alt, then press those 4 keys in sequence). The event logger has an options screen (Menu->Options), where you can filter its output. I'd set it to "Debug Info", then hide everything except "LogicMail", "Java Exception", "net.rim.networkapi", and "net.rim.tcp". (you could leave it all enabled, but then the output will be quite chatty) Once the event logger is set, close that screen and return to LogicMail. Make LogicMail try to connect to your mail server (e.g. do a "Refresh folders"). Then close/hide LogicMail and return to the event logger. You should be able to see exactly what's being attempted and failing. -Derek On 06/05/2012 06:43 AM, Philippe LeCavalier wrote: > Anyone? > > I'd particularly like to hear any feedback about the APN setting. > > Thanks, > Phil > > > On Sun, Jun 3, 2012 at 9:23 AM, Philippe LeCavalier > <su...@pl... <mailto:su...@pl...>> wrote: > > Hi Derek. > > On Sat, Jun 2, 2012 at 2:10 PM, Derek Konigsberg > <dko...@lo... <mailto:dko...@lo...>> > wrote: > > ... > > Also, "the web browser works" is rarely a valid test. Thanks Derek. I appreciate you taking the time. In the log I do see "Unable to open connection". So I cleared that. Selected only what you suggested and refreshed the folders. Strangely, it didn't work and the log remained empty. So I did a soft-reset(alt+shift+del). When the phone rebooted I clicked refreshed folders and bingo! I've got my Gmail. Now, and I think this is perhaps the source of my troubles, after LogicMail is done loading my Gmail I get "Before using the mobile Internet, you must have a valid data add-on. See your text msg inbox for details. OK/Save. Despite that everything is still working but I remember seeing that the first time when it work to. The error # is 3330. The txt msg in question has nothing more than the original msg but a link to my provider. The page(@Rogers) attempts to entice me to purchase a data plan. All that said, I clearly see the wifi icon on my BB. Is there a chance I'm on 3/4G and I'll be charged some crazy "no-data-plan" fee? Any idea's? I guess the biggest question remains, when I switch to another wifi network will LM continue to work or will I have to reboot every time I switch? Thanks again. You've ventured into the land of weird phone/carrier issues and configurations. I have absolutely no clue either way. All I can do in LogicMail itself, is let you select "WiFi only" as a networking option. When this option is set, and you try to connect, I add a "do this over WiFi" flag to the connection parameters. P.S. If you've enabled everything I mentioned, you should also see log lines that contain the actual connection string the app is using when talking to the device's network API. It'll be something like "ssl:///your.mail.server:993;interface=wifi". -Derek On 06/05/2012 07:39 AM, Philippe LeCavalier wrote: > Thanks Derek. Yep. I see the interface=wifi. I'm guessing it's more weird carrier than weird phone issues but time will tell. Now that I've got more insight I can deal with it. Perhaps even get to the bottom of it...I'm not overly worried about bogus charges. I'll fight 'em. Thanks again Derek. Much appreciated! Well, sure enough I just got onto another wifi and got the red x on my Gmail inbox. Rebooted my bb and now I've got my new mail. Anyone else experience this?
