    Dear folks,

this post contains the first ideas I had about log4d structure and aim...

    - to be as close as possible to log4j philosophy, as multiple hierarchical loggers, appenders, contexts

    - extensive exception reporting via JCL's stack trace facility

    - object dump via RTTI

Other ideas will be extremely appreciated. Feel free to suggest and/or explain your needs.

I agree with keeping as close as possible to the log4j philosophy. However, since we are developing this anew I don't see the point of porting deprecated features of log4j. I have updated the base units to conform to log4j 1.2.8, replacing categories with loggers, and priorities with levels, amongst other things.

I have also uploaded a version of Chainsaw for Delphi - a log viewer. I would like this to be enhanced in functionality as needs be.

In addition, I see amongst the goals of this project the aim to make Log4D available to the widest audience possible. Obviously interfaces are used in the package, so versions of Delphi prior to 4 are out (I think that was when they were introduced). However, I would like to see Log4D also available on Kylix. Someone else will have to check this out since I don't have Kylix.
