Getting that ssh port open will be useful for other purposes as well, so it's worth a try. Alternatively there is an alternative that should work well enough: at http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cvstarballs/log4cpp-cvsroot.tar.gz you can download a tar ball of log4cpp's CVS repository.
