Thanks for the report. Since you are actually using Aaron's patch, would
you mind spending some time on merging it? Aaron didn't have time to do
it himself, and I don't want to blindly merge it myself without any way
to check it or fix problems (I don't have MSVC++).
It should be too much work: just a merge to the CVS trunk and few
iterations of test builds and adaptions based on feed back.

PPS. David, your log4cpp-devel list address contains single quotes where
it shouldn't. This may cause your mail to bounce.
