It'd be useful to have a debugging option which triggers verbose output about log4c initialization (which log4crc file is picked up and used, etc.). It should be specified as environment variable to keep it out of the code and configuration files.
You could use a variable SD_DEBUG (=1). It is chatty and probably meant more for development debugging, but it will print also the read configuration file.
