And I'm not even to mention > what a PITA it is to make a program change in RG... > </rant> Ok, I understand your frustration but I disagree that we (linux audio guys) are worse than anyone else. I had the misfortune of helping my brother getting his windows based music stuff working this christmas... Jikes! It took me ages to understand what goes where... the parts I did figure out... To me, the way it works in my Linux-setup, was a blessing ;-) <going of on a tangent here> It's possible that the DOS sequencers you mention were uniform in this matter, I don't know why, possibly because the limitations the user interface placed on the design. It can be argued that computer advances for the last 20 years haven't really meant any progress at all, it's just different, sometimes radically different. The simple answer is that computer engieering is a very young science and not all changes will be for the best, still we make them, in hopes that they will be better. For me this is the reason why things look/work so differently. We (linux audio people) have managed to agree on a some constants lately, alsa-sequencer and jack, which is great. But going further than this is going to take time... but please don't let that stop you from wishing. :) </> Back to MusE. I haven't tested Ardours "default connection" mechanism, but we have a template system that I think will do what you want (try choosing new). As for different ways of connecting up gear, you are right it should be an option to do all connections outside of MusE. Though for myself I could never use that solution. A very important goal for MusE (for me atleast) is to have only ONE place where settings are stored, and this is the song file. When this is loaded _everything_ shall be restored, including connections to external equipment. If LASH/LADCCA was supported everywhere this could be turned on it's head and instead let all settings be stored in some other entity. But it isn't and will probably never be...(this is probably food for another rant). On the other hand, it was a very long time ago I tested how these features work in RG and Seq24 so I should probably do my homework and check it out. Still, thanks for sharing your frustrations!
