I am using MusE as a sequencer for fluidsynth (base & piano), Zynaddsubfx (synth leads/pads), Hydrogen (drums). I route everything to either the audio outputs or to Ardour with Jack. I also capture input from a keyboard via the USB-MIDI device in Linux. I route everything external to the system into Ardour. I have rt patches in the 2.6.4 kernel and run Jack realtime with a 256 byte buffer to cut down on latency for external audio. I can use ladspa plugins in Ardure for guitar effects and such with this setup. I usualy record two tracks at a time into Ardour from MusE. After tracking all the channels from MusE, I close it and start tracking external stuff (guitars, vocals). After mixing the tracks, I use Jamin to master the result. MusE is the workhorse for many things here. It works nice when I'm editing drums, capturing and editing keyboards, base, etc. Then after everything is clean, I just sync it with Ardour to record the tracks. I'm still in the early stages of this and have a long way to go. But, I am very encouraged with the results I've had so far. -James |
