thank you for your suggestions, guys, Full report follows. ================================ Running UbuntuStudio 9.04, 64-bit, default installation ----------------------------------- [website cvs guide] *"If you got an older version of muse installed, remove it. This is done with apt-get remove muse. Or in similar steps with the tool "rpm". " * - Muse will not uninstall unless I remove ubuntu audio (The following packages will be REMOVED muse ubuntustudio-audio) -------------------------------------------------- As for the m4 'martian' language, I was following the website guide again: *"If you get a warning when you run "autogen.sh". DO NOT IGNORE IT"* So, when I saw : You need libtools >= 1.4! I un-installed my default libtools (2.2.6 I think) and installed 1.5 I received make: *** No rule to make target `m4/ltoptions.m4', needed by `Makefile.in'. Stop. When Robert mentioned libtools, I went back and reinstalled libtools 2.2.6 and the error disappeared. ------------------- [Geoff] --enable-arch=i686 If I do that, I get mess.cpp:1: error: CPU you selected does not support x86-64 instruction set make[5]: *** [mess.lo] Error 1 make[5]: Leaving directory `/home/viktor/temp/muse/synti/libsynti' make[4]: *** [all] Error 2 ------------------------------- [Geoff] the -c trick I tried it, but didn't notice any difference, to be honest. --------------------------------------------------------- otherwise, with ./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-optimize I get this error .../usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.3.3/../../../../lib/crt1.o: In function `_start': /build/buildd/glibc-2.9/csu/../sysdeps/x86_64/elf/start.S:109: undefined reference to `main' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[5]: *** [musewidgetsplugin.so] Error 1 make[5]: Leaving directory `/home/viktor/temp/muse/muse/widgets' ..... --------------------------------- Finally, installing muse-1.0rc3 from the tarball was spotless (no -c trick) Simple drums can be added on a midi track. I didn't have time to test-play Muse 1.0rc3 further (too much time spent on trying to install from cvs) Thanks for that, Robert. I will just stick to these rc, tarball, semi-official releases for now. That will free me the time to actually record and produce music on Muse. And to report praises and bugs and request features. thanking you all once again, Viktor |
