Before I begin you should know I'm a midi newb. I have a general idea of how it's supposed to control my equipment from past experience with cakewalk, but I've become lost using Jack/Muse in Fedora. I have an Echo AudioFire12 which I'm connected to via firewire and an Alesis SR-16 drum machine. I have Fedora 10 with CCRMA packages installed. I use Jack to record audio very successfully. In Jack Patch I see under Output and Input: Midi Through \-Midi Through Port-0 I've plugged the AF12 MidiOut to the SR16 MidiIn I've Plugged the AF12 MidiIn to SR16 MidiOut The Alesis SR-16 is configured for Midi Channel - Omni and Normal Note Map. Basically what I want to do is compose drum tracks on a piano roll (like in Hydrogen) but have it instead control my SR-16 drum machine for playback. Muse looks like the right program. Reading the manual I get stumped at step 1: "Select a song type from the Type pulldown menu in the Toolbar. This selects the capabilities of your MIDI hardware (either NO, GM, GS, or XG)." How do I determine which to choose? Any other help to get me started is very much appreciated! -Scott |
