Hi, I've had Jamulus (3.6.2) running successfully on a 2012 Macbook Pro, OS Catalina, for some time using either a Focusrite Solo or a Behringer UM2. This setup has suddenly developed a problem: Audio output from Jamulus via the USB interface (Solo or UM2) still works, but Jamulus is not showing any input from the interface.

I know that the USB interfaces both work with the Mac - I set up a DAW (Traktion Waveform) to use the UM2 (and Solo) as input and output and that all works. I have also tried routing the USB audio input via the DAW to Blackhole and in to Jamulus but Jamulus doesn't register this input either. From this it looks like the problem is something to do with Mac audio routing to Jamulus. Note that the output from Jamulus out to the UM2 or Solo headphones works (tested by connecting Jamulus to an occupied server).

I have tried uninstalling Jamulus completely and re-installing but that makes no difference. In Jamulus settings I have tried all combinations of input available (built in mic, USB audio interface, Blackhole) but nothing registers any signal in Jamulus. I have also tried all combinations of Jamulus buffer settings and enabling/disabling small network buffers. I've also tried re-installing Blackhole, and restarted the system several times. I've checked that everything is set to 48KHz in Audio Midi Setup.

    I am now stuck :(

Does anyone have any ideas of why Jamulus would stop recognising an audio input when that input is recognised by other audio software on the Mac?

Thanks in advance for any ideas. :)

With your audio interface connected, open Finder > Applications > Audio MIDI Setup, then click on the Window menu and choose Show Audio Devices. In the list on the left, click each device (particularly your audio interface) and check the volume levels on the right - perhaps your audio interface input/output levels have been reduced to zero or are muted.

Although I would expect that to affect the AI's behavior with other apps too, so I'm probably wrong.

One more guess: In 3.6.2, Jamulus changed the way that AI information is stored in the Jamulus INI file. It's possible that it's not correctly recognizing your AI. Delete the INI and run Jamulus to see if that solves it. The INI file can be found:
    - On a Mac at ~/.config/Jamulus
    - On Windows at C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Jamulus

Hi Chris, I"m sorry - I'd forgotten I'd posted this on here! I got an answer on the Jamulus facebook group: Jamulus had lost security permission to access any microphones on my Mac. Sorted now. Thanks for your response though (I didn't know where the Jamulus.ini file was on Mac so that's handy to know!) and apologies for not coming back and saying it was solved earlier! :/
