I'm currently running Jamulus with an ASIO4all sound program. When I connect to another band member who is only 6km frome whe cannot achieve a suitable total delay - always over 100 with a red dot. Could this be a network speed problem orshoud I consider downloading and installing the Opus Codec to improve this performance.

...download and installing the Opus Codec...you dont need to as jamulus uses these Codecs :-)

Hello Volker. I'm a great fan of Jamulus. I and my fellow band members would love to use it to its full potential but we are one group of about three in the whole of our country, New Zealand. Most of the nearest public servers are in Australia and have pings of 50ms plus and cannot be used by us.
I have created a private server by opening it as public until we are all connected and then we tick the box to make it private.  Is that a recognised procedure?

We have been confining our numbers to three while we experiment with connection, with the nearest member to me being 6 kilometres from the server on my laptop but we cannot achieve an acceptible connection. We are both using asio4all which is recomended for Windows. I'm on Windows 7 and the nearest other member at 6km is on Windows 10  with the third some 40 kilometres distant from the server, on a Mac. Is there anything you or another user can suggest to solve our problem.

Thanks a million for providing a fantastic tool.

that should be un-tick the box to make it private

More important than the geographic distances from each other are the ping times from each other... If you connect to the server and then open up the "Settings" dialog box while connected, what are the numbers it shows in the lower right area for ping time and overall latency?

Since you mention a laptop, it's worth asking if you're using WiFi. Ethernet will reduce latency slightly and be more reliable, especially if you have other devices sharing your connection.

As far as making your server private, the trick you used will technically work, but a more straight-forward approach is to just share the IP address or DNS name of the server with other people who want to connect, and have them type that into the Connect dialog box.

I can repeat it every day, do not use Wifi. Don't believe me, I'm not an authority, but here's why ...........

Thankyou mmatt for the Codec info. Elliot and Luuk I have always used ethernet cable connection.

The attachment shows my connection to a public server. I don't believe its good enough. Can you advise.

Thanks all for giving me the time

So I cant solve your issue, and just using ethernet cable does not help as delay basically is determined by the need of correct buffer settings for the network outside (although wired connection is a must have) .... What I at least wonder in your configuration is that the right slider is completely down and the left is up. This could not work to my opinion (dont know why in this case buffer LED is green). Please use the 'auto' checkbox, then your 'buffer slider' will move and show you the minimum settings for your buffers (local/server side). increase them a bit (auto unchecked) will give you some more room for safeness
