I tried to setup a jamulus server on my iMac and connect via loopback address 127.0.0.1. After about a minute of playing the sound completely drops out. Disconnecting and reconnecting, the same pattern repeats. When I connect to a remote server I'm not getting any audio drop outs or issues. My computer is connected via ethernet and my provider is FIOS (fiber optic).
Is it possible to host a server locally and connect to it? I tried changing a variety of the settings and could not find anything that worked.

Hi Alex (nice name btw :p). If you want an easy way to setup a private server maybe you can try https://melomax.live In a few clicks you can select a server that is closest to you, and only you will be given the special URL generated for you. No worries if you still want to carry on with hosting your own locally.
I haven't heard of the problem you are having above, very strange that it connects initially but then drops completely. Did you follow some tutorial to get it set up?

Great new service Alex - very innovative. If I can suggest an improvement, it would be useful to be able to see your geographic focus without having to try and book a slot first. Perhaps there's also scope to help "curate" some of the genre-focussed discussion going on in the Musicians Lounge? If you were able to record a couple of short sessions and share them on the site, to bring to life for newbies how good jamulus can be, that would be exciting too.

Thanks Andrew! Good idea, we've added some sort of auto location lookup to the backlog. Not sure what you mean by helping curate the genre focussed discussion?

Hi Alex,
FYI
I just tried your service, but it stopped already with the speed test. It claims the server is in Zürich, but gave me a ping time of 98ms. I am in Switzerland so have pings to the California of ~98, not to Zürich. Something is not working right.

Thanks for trying it out DonC. Very strange that this is happening for you, we just use the speed test at openspeedtest.com so they must have some issue there. If you want to go straing to the booking page because you know your connection is good enough, you can access it here

So what has worked for me is to run a server from my windows PC. I will try again hosting locally but if it doesnt work again, I suspect maybe the CPU isn't powerful enough to handle both hosting the session and running the client plus logic pro in the background. Will keep testing and post an update.

check CPU usage during your tests to verify it. Also, there is some issue when apps are in background (a feature in Macosx to save energy).
