My music teacher has a Jamulus server running on his Apple Macbook Pro from his home.
He has some students that are able to connect to his Jamulus server without any problem (not sure what their client machines are running or what type of network they are using).
I have Jamulus client installed on my Macbook Pro, at my home.
When I launch Jamulus and attempt to find my teacher's server, it does not appear.
If I launch Jamulus from Terminal using the showallservers parameter, it appears in the list of available servers, but when I attempt to connect, receive the "Attempting to Connect" when I select the server.
Help is requested.
Neither of us are very technical, so asking that you please keep that in mind when offering suggestions or asking for more input.
Regards and TIA,
Jim P.

It's hard to say why you're getting "Attempting to Connect" while others can connect. Can you connect to any other servers on the list? If so, then you may just need to wait to see if the connection works later.

I believe "showallservers" simply returns a list of the servers registered on the central server you are using. By default, you client only shows servers it can "ping", and if for some reason your client can't ping them, then it can't connect to them either. So they won't been shown in the list. "Showallservers" is simply a way to verify that a given server is registered (similar to checking https://explorer.jamulus.io)

I'm afraid as far as I know, intermittent "Attempting to Connect" messages from some clients are usually too difficult to diagnose. It could be a network problem at your or their end that is somehow preventing proper connection but what that might be is very hard to say. The only real cure is to simply agree with your teacher to use another public server to which you can both connect.

What little research I have been able to do, reveals that I am much more likely to connect to a Windows or Linux server than a server running on Mac OS.
Will try to find a public server to practice on.
Thanks for the feedback.

Hi James,

I am able to connect to other servers.
I have tried to connect to my teacher's server several times, when it is visible, but I continue to receive the same error.
Could you explain why my teacher's server is only visible when I start the Jamulus client using in Terminal, using the "showallservers" parameter?

Usually this is a Port Forwarding or Port access issue, likely on his end if you're able to connect to other (public) servers.
