Greetings,
Looking for Bluegrass musicians in the San Francisco area. Anyone out there? I'm a pretty advanced picker, but not so much when it comes to bluegrass vocals. If you play any bluegrass music at any level please reach out!
Thanks.
Paul Baxter

Ha! Not one reply. 🙁 I have been able to jam with one guy from a Bluegrass class we were in some time ago. Other than an audio challenge on occasion it’s been great. It is remarkable that more folks haven’t embraced Jamulus. Wishing you luck in finding some folks to jam with!
For me it's a mystery.
People aren't willing to take the first step, even if they are complaining loudly about being so separated from others.
I tried to get the orchestra I play with interested, first try, no-one. Second try, no-one.
After much talk I got the director (also plays violin) to try it out with me one evening and he was really surprised. He then got the 1st violin to try.
Everyone who has tried has been pleasantly surprised.
Now we play together on our weekly rehearsal evening and people are slowly coming together. But we are still at only about 1/3rd of our members.
Those that have played with us once, have never missed a rehearsal since.
But for some reason people don't want to make that first try.

I have the same experience here with our blues band. Our bass man and me are tech-savvy but the guitar player and our drummer are not. I assume that it is still too complicated for them.
I've set up a private server and next week I'll be first test with our bass man. If that works, I have already informed the other two to install the software remotely with Teamviewer on their notebooks.
I'm very excited to see if Jamulus will work as expected.

For MAC users Jamulus is not more complicated than Zoom or Skype, and I can't remember ever hearing someone who has a computer saying that Zoom or Skype is too complicated to use. (Under Windows things are different, I agree). Even using the internal mic the sound quality is good. The only small complication I have seen setting up orchestra members is setting the input volume too high giving distortion while playing loud. People blame that immediately on Jamulus. But once their input volume is set right (and they use a cable connection and not wifi) everyone is enchanted.
I guess it is just a leap of faith that is too big to believe that playing together can work if we are not visibly together.

sorry, maybe it did sound like i wanted to criticize Jamulus but that was not my intention. I am very, very glad that people do spend their private time to create such a fanstastic piece of software for us.
Pretty sure that my guys will be very happy if everything is working as expected.

Hi Rolf,
Not at all, I didn't read a criticism of Jamulus in your comment. This is a problem that many are having. It appears to me not to be a problem with Jamulus, but a problem of overcoming a certain mindset that apparently many people have.
I just wish I could think of a way of convincing more people to try out Jamulus.

It is not even a "tech-savvy" problem IMHO.

rolfb,
Where does your blues band operate from? If on the west coast I might be able to throw in on keys or guitar. Thanks.
