Folks, I installaded Jamulus today, and I am a bit frustrated.

My Macbook has a built-in mic and speakers, but I want to use the only external mic I have: my headset. It's a good one, a HyperX Virtual Surround, hooked up via USB. I use it every day for video conferences.

Now with Jamulus, I get the choices you see in the attached picture. WHatever I choose, I always get this message:

"The selected audio device could not be used because of the following error: Current system audio output device sample rate of 0 Hz is not supported. Please open the Audio-MIDI-Setup in Applications->Utilities and try to set a sample rate of 48000 Hz. The previous driver will be selected."

Well, I looked it up in the system settings: 48000 Hz IS set.

    What can I do?

Do the built-in mic and speakers work? Or do you also get the error message when you select these?

When I select them I get no error message. Everything else delivers the error.

"device sample rate of 0 Hz" indicates a serious issue. Maybe the output cannot be used at all with Jamulus. But this would surprise me since it works with other applications.
Can you please check that the sample rate in Audio-MIDI-Setup is set to 48000 Hz for the input and output of the devices?

    Cheched. It is 48000.

Ok, then I run out of ideas. This seems to be a sound card driver related issue.

I may also have hit this problem. Macbook pro 2012, MacOS 10.12.6. Today if I try to use my HP USB stereo headset I get the same error message. It's still working with the built-in audio though. Probably I need to try a reboot but have some other things I am working on just now. Will post an update when I've rebooted.

Yes a reboot fixed it for me

In my experience, if you change inputs/outputs with System Preferences or with Jamulus preferences while Jamulus is running, you sometimes (always?) run the risk of things getting scrambled. I have seen that same error message, but it has never persisted after quitting Jamulus, making sure the input/output I want is selected in System Preferences, and then restarting Jamulus.

In my case, things have changed: my MacBook died, it was a terminal illness called "mainboard damage".
