I am new to linux and am trying to get LIRC working with Mandrake 9.0. = I have tried everything I have learned thus far and have no idea where = to go from here. I did a clean install of Mandrake and proceeded with = the following steps: Ran urpmi kernel-source, thus installing kernel 2.4.19.16mdk i believe. = Untarred lirc to a directory, ran ./setup.sh in the directory. I = purchased a homebrew receiver from http://www.zapway.de/index1.htm. = After being unable to fix the problem before I installed windows on the = computer and got the hardware to work with winlirc so I know it is not a = hardware problem. Setup had it automatically set up on COM1, all info = correct. Ran save config & run configure. Said need lirc_serial and to = run make, make install. Ran $ make and had errors so ran # make and it = worked fine. Then ran # make install, everything went good. Ran # = chmod 666 /dev/lircd. Link from /dev/lirc -> ttyS0 was not made, so had = to create one myself by running # ln -sf ttyS0 lirc. Checked and link = was created successfully. Placed alias char-major-61 lirc_serial in = modules.conf. Did a modprobe of lirc_serial and came up with: [root@localhost derek]# modprobe lirc_serial=20 /lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/3rdparty/lirc/lirc_serial.o.gz:=20 init_module: Input/output error=20 Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,=20 including=20 invalid IO or IRQ parameters.=20 You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg=20 modprobe: insmod=20 /lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/3rdparty/lirc/lirc_serial.o.gz failed=20 -----So ran dmesg and came up with: lirc_serial: port 03f8 already in use, proceeding anyway=20 lirc_serial: compile the serial port driver as module and=20 lirc_serial: make sure this module is loaded first=20 lirc_serial: auto-detected active low receiver=20 _devfs_append_entry(serial): dir: "lirc" is not a directory=20 devfs_register(lirc/serial): could not append to parent, err: -20=20 lirc_serial: devfs_register failed!=20 lirc_serial: auto-detected active low receiver=20 -----And just to test ran irrecord and got the following results: [derek@localhost derek]$ irrecord myremote=20 irrecord - application for recording IR-codes for usage with lirc=20 Copyright (C) 1998,1999 Christoph Bartelmus(li...@ba...)=20 irrecord: could not get hardware features=20 irrecord: this device driver does not support the new LIRC interface=20 irrecord: make sure you use a current version of the driver=20 irrecord: could not init hardware (lircd running ? --> close it, check=20 permissions)=20 Reset the system and tried running again and have the following = problems. Anyone that has any info please let me know, I have been = trying for the last week to get this running correctly, and I have no = idea what I am doing wrong. I tried using Red Hat 8 but couldn't get = lirc to work on there either, which prompted me to test the hardware. = Hardware is fine. Would like to stick with Mandrake 9. I checked all = the forum posts but could not find anything similar enough to get this = fixed correctly. LIRCD wont load because it wants a .conf file. The IO = and IRQ is correct and it is on COM1. Any info that can get this = working, please reply. Thanks. -Derek |
