I got the same problem couple of days ago. You have to re-compile the kernel and compile lirc afterwards. At least you just need to set the configure file for your running kernel, the procedure is: 1. Open kernel Makefile and find EXTRAVERSION variable, delete "custom" string if you use single -processor; 2. make mrproper; 3. make menuconfig and exit from it by saving the configuration without making any changes; 4. make dep; 5. make clean. Then configure lirc and make it.
