Hey, I've noticed that all my lirc-enabled apps quit immediately after running them -- even irexec (*without* the -d command). I checked the process table (ps -ef) and didn't see anything running, so I don't think it forked into the background. Actually, I've only tried vlc and irexec, but since both exhibit the behavior, I'm wondering if something is wrong with my liblircclient. Oh yeah, one other thing -- if I invoke irexec once, it quits. If I invoke it again, it complains that it can't open the socket. Restarting lircd seems to clear this condition, allowing me to start up irexec once again (but only once). What could be going on here? Also, one more note -- I spent a long time trying to figure out how to make lirc work with my computer's SIR port -- the link "IrDA compatible hardware" on the front page talks about IrDA remote controls, which is really confusing... a simple FAQ entry or link on the front page indicating that "in order to use lirc with your built-in IrDA port, you should choose the lirc_sir kernel module" would really help.
